I can't find myself in the player directory and neither can anyone else. Not sure why. Help?

you can't be found on the player directory because you are still a provisional rated player (denoted by a small p).
Plus you need to make a move as well

click on open invites at the top of the page, and you can select the available ones on there.

or go on to find player and pick one that is up for challenges
