my opponent was on vacation,in the time they were away the time bank ran out but I did not claim a win,now he/she has returned and made a move and I then made a move but the claim win is still there.Why?(if it matters this is a tournament game)
If so that tournment has no timeout just a 30 day timebank. Therefore as your opponent has no timebank left whenever it is their turn you can time them out.

Has anyone actually experienced an automatic win?
I had a few claimable games going in a very recent tournament, after much more than two days it was still not automatically timed out.

I've had several automatic wins. It did seem to take a little longer than a strict 2 days, but not much longer.
