Apologies if this has been discussed before...
In paper-based correspondence chess, it is common practise to use conditional moves to save time and postage.
So, for example, you'll send 1.e4 and say 'if 1...e5 then 2.Nf3' or for obvious re-captures.
Any thoughts on whether this would be worth looking at? (I'd think it would be less than trivial to code).

    I second this suggestion.

This would certainly save time and bandwidth.
    It was discussed previously: http://www.redhotchess.com/board/showthread.php?id=7307
