The boards are customizable, but the site's bright theme is not, at least from what I can tell. Is there a "dark" or "night" mode available which replaces the majority of site wide backdrops to black rather than white?

Other than using one of the other brands, about all I know for you to do is adjust your monitor intensity.
If the other versions of the site don't help, I would suggest that you post something in the 'site ideas' forum and maybe Russ will come up with a new version of the site with less brightness to meet your needs.
