Problem logging in from iPad

When trying to login from my iPad, when I click on the "login" button the screen goes dim and won't respond. This has been goi9ng on for some time now and I have been playing using the app but like the website login version better. What is causing this?

The footer of every page contains a login link. This uses an alternative page, which should work just fine.

(The original problem does need a fix though, but can't be reproduced currently)
