What are recommended posts? unfortuantely I tried to respond to a post (reagrding increased subs I wanted to respond to someone saying that the increase was too much saying that $30 for 100's of hours entertainment is still extremely cheap). Unfortunately I had just got out of bed and pressed recommend (does this mean I have supported a post that I wanted to oppose? if so is there any way that I can undo this?

if you like a post, you recommend it. just click on the link. recs are counted (per post and per user), so you can think about the quality (hopefully) of the post.

Yes, you did support a post you wanted to oppose. You can't undo it. Don't worry about it though. Rec's don't really count for anything. They aren't taken as votes or concensus.
