I would like to be able to search forums by a word in the topic, instead of just by author. If this exists someone tell me how, because I have'nt figured it out. I think this would help some of the newer players from bringing up topics which have already been raised

This did exist, and then was removed as an optimisation until we found a better solution. It will return one day.

I'd be ever so happy if it did return. Thank you for responding.

You totally right, I don't know why Russ removed it, perhaps it causes too much work for the server. 🙁

use the following syntax in Google (or a similar search engine)

site:redhotpawn.com +showthread <your search terms here>

e.g.
site:redhotpawn.com +showthread search

That will act as a search engine of the forums on this site without the site actually having to do it.

Coincidently, before I read this post, I kind of decided that using a Google custom search might be the best way forward with this anyway.

It certainly is a simple solution, even if I have no control over if ads are shown (or their content).

The site command for google ends on the .com (or .co.uk or whatever), not any underlying directory.

however, the +showthread term forces only hits from the forums to be returned.
Prizes for those who find terms to search profiles etc...

(OK: I'll admit, there are no prizes...)
