A much higher player stalemated me. He had the choice of a stalemate or moving his king which would have resulted in a draw. I was not paying attention regarding my rating and now wonder did I gain any points for a stalemate?

Pays the same because it's pretty much the same. Stalemate by definition is a drawn game, just a special way to get there.

you are not far off, though. there have been many who have proposed a 2/3 point score in tournaments for obtaining a stalemate. there's good reasons for it.
