I have been playing chess through the site for around four months and have so far found it a pleasure, easy-to-use.
My one difficulty is that I have had a number of potential games deleted by opponents.
At the same time, I have not sent any private messages on starting games, mainly because I am aware that a significant number of people on the site do not use English as a first language. If I did send a private message I would expect to send the same to everybody.
My questions are:
Should a private message be sent when starting a game?
If so, what should its contents be?

"If you would like a game, please let me know. What time limits are good for you? I'm rated around 1500's, and will use data for the opening unless you prefer I do not. I move about once every 4 days, so I prefer a slow game."
Just an example based on the type of message I send. People will probably translate your message if English is not their language, or you will never hear back.
When I get a game from someone who did not message me, I more often than not delete the game.
