I am on vacation next week and my opponent has clearly stated that if I do not make a move within the time limit he will time me out regardless of my vacation setting. Which is ever so slighlty annoying considering its a tournament game and I waited six months for the second round to start....

Anyway I have thought of two soloutions:
1. in my abscence can I delegate a subsitute to take over, effectively keeping my games ticking over until i get back
or
2. Can i play some advance moves i.e. he plays a1-b1 I play a8-b8, etc etc

What does everyone else think?

i don't see either of your suggestions being possible.
but you have a bigger problem in that in the tournament game it will T/O automatically.

If the game doesn't have a suitably long timebank then that's the only solution you really have. I think it might be nice if people could be allowed to nominate a second (who must be of a lower rating) to take over their moves when they are on holiday.

This sucks IMO. I play at XXXX, and there you can postpone your games, and have a vacation set. And all your games will be postponed with the amount af days you choose (max. 120 days a year, and max. 30 days in a row). Why is it not so here? Apparently, after what I read, you can timeout, even if you have a vacation set. That does´nt make sense IMO. Can somebody explain this?

EDIT: I wouldn’t normally censor - but as 0 moves have been made, it all seems a bit suspicious to make a post like this with a link out : Russ

Ups! I did´nt know it was prohibited to make posts at the forums, unless you have played and made moves. A pitty, thoug, as my main purpose with joining the site, was to make use of the forums. But I guess it just end my career here. I will stick to the site, which you so elegant has XXXX above! Which by the way also is a VERY good chesssite!

As I said, I woudn't normally edit any posts. But we moderate away plenty of commercial spam - which is always posted after 0 moves. So I am not dismissing the other site, but I am sure you can appreciate my logic for doing what I did.

Regardless of timeouts, vacations, and everything else that gets bundled along, I think it would be nice to have a conditional move (akin to when we played by mail -- remember that?) available though don't know how it would be structured for input, display or fulfillment given the interface.

Attaboy Russ!! Who's to say he doesn't own the other site, and I would suggest that if his main reason for using RHP was to utilize the forums, then he is missing the point of the site. Send him to Yahoo 😕
