There are tournaments organised by non-sibscribers. You can find those under the "tournament" forums.
But theses are not officially noted. And as far as I can see people drop out of these fairly frequently.

Since non-subs only have six games (at a given time) playing becomes boring if your opponents don't move.
If you want to play the tournmanet the subscription is not too dear.
