Strange... you should be able to. Perhaps there's a slight delay between subscription and the benefits "kicking in". Or perhaps you have to log out and log back in after subscribing. Or perhaps you were trying to challenge a non-subscriber that was already playing at the max number of games?Just shooting in the dark here! 🙂

Why not try:
My Settings->My Challenge Settings
Check the value of "Maximum number of concurrent games before preventing challenges".
Increase as required.
Not sure if this is the problem, but worth a try?
