Whatever happened to the mentor idea

did this idea, of a mentor for new members, die a silent death?

I seem to be getting a lot of provisional challenges appearing my stack so I assumed it was going strong!

No, I shelved it in the end and opted for another redesigned process for new users.

The current one encourages invites and opponents chosen by a wizard.

So far, this seems to be quite effective – but there is still quite a bit of wastage of new users who sign up and then leave.
