They're both terrible.

Why allow him to preserve the bishop just to advance a pawn?

b5 allow Bxb5, saving the bishop and gaining another pawn
e5, allows Bxf7 Kxf7 and then Nb3 or Be2....after b5 he is up a bishop and pawn, after e5 he is up a pawn and our king is a little exposed
