On the 15th move if the Queen has not moved and Queens Rook has
not moved then you may caastle the Queen.
The Rook lands on c1 and the Queen on b1.

This dates back to an old French move invented by King Louis the 15th.
(hence the 15th move).

I really am amazed at the amount of people on here who simply
do not know the rules of chess.

Next you will be asking about the Rook en Passent Rule.

What is that move where you put your rook and two bishops on the same square to make a new queen?

I forget how it works.

I know that it comes in handy when you want to avoid stalemates and keep the mate simple.

Let me try to find the Morphy game where his opponent did that.
While the poor guy was trying to get the modified queen, Morphy mated him with pawns. 🙂

I love that game. I read an article written by an IM/writer who was watching the game.

He describes people going crazy, jumping on tables, as well as kind fellow-chessplayers trying to console Morphy's opponent.
I think Morphy even mated capturing en passant, but can't remember well.

Fun read, I should look it up sometime.

The notation in the book was funny too. KB+QB+QR=Q !!!

That's a real long sequence to fit in a scorepad.

I can't even imagine how it would look in algebraic notation.

Ah Morphy, that was some good blindfold play.

I had forgotten it was a blindfold game !!!

Now, I know where to look in the Morphy book.

I will try to dig mine out by the end of the day.

Thanks 🙂

That also reminds me of one of Morphy's rare blindfold losses.

They removed his queen rook and didn't tell him !

Just as he announced 0-0-0 # (castles queenside with mate), they let him in on the little secret.

Morphy was so furious that he vowed to play all of his future blindfold games with one eye open.

Haha! Fantastic anecdote!

There is also the tragic story of Morphy's death.

They game him a blindfold and announced 1.e4.

He sat down and began to think.

Before he knew it, the voice said "e3, e2, e1, FIRE !!!".

It was the first recorded firing squad surprise in history.

Many a chessplayer has broken into a cold sweat while awaiting a move in a blindfold game.

The moral is : Only play blindfold chess with someone you trust. 🙂

😲 That's one ambition of mine well and truly quashed!
