Good Sportsmanship

I am sure all of you have come across some examples of outstanding sportsmanship in your chess careers. Great acts that made you feel all warm and fuzzy inside or just little things that impressed you. Please share them here!

A player called Alan Murphy once resigned against me in a won position
in a serious OTB game.

I said i'll accept your resignation if you accept my draw offer.

We agreed a draw.

I lost ½ a point but gained a very good friend.

I was playing a blitz game on FICS and was dominating the game, but was running out of time. My opponent put a minute back on my clock. I asked him why and he said that I deserved to win the game. I was very surprised.

once I was losing this game, so I purposelly moved extremely slow to annoy my opponent. with still about 25 mins left on the clock, he decided to go to the bathroom, after he left his seat, I got up and followed him there. And once we got in the bathroom, I got him in the head and knocked him out unconscious, finally I hid him in a concealed room. 30 mins past, his clock ran out and I claimed the win😏.

Never heard from him since then.

But who cares. I found £100,000 in this concealed room.

When a chess player is respectful when the game is won or lost it is a great feeling. I've played opponents that were not good when losing, but were somehow more respectful when they won hmmm.

Last time I lost in a real OTB game I looked my opponent up and burned his mothers house down.

I lost a game on this site recently. Basically I lost the game because I moved to fast and left my Knight unprotected (I know ... I know, think before you move, but then again, has this never happened to you too??). I felt really sorry for myself, but I guess this is not the fault of my opponent so my final words to him were:

"I could try to stall this game and wait for the inevitable, but that will not make me feel any better about this game. Good job! A very happy new year to you. Do you mind if I ask for a rematch? "

I felt a whole lot better after he had accepted the rematch.

I'm reminded of an episode from the television show "House", which starts at a chess tournament. Person A tells person B he's already lost and should give up. The game plays out, person A wins. Person B stands up, extends his hand and say's "good game". Person A stands up and beats in his face with the time clock.
