Why doesn't game explorer ever update its game database? It has sat at the same numbers of games since I started paying attention to it, which was a long time ago...
P

Because....and I know you will find this hard to believe.

No new games have been played since the last update.

Every game that has been played since the last update is just a repeat of
a game already in the RHP Database.

When Russ loads in the new Database it automatically does a 'doubler'
search and stops any doublers from getting in.

If you really want to get a game into the Games Explorer DB then start
with 1.f3 and 2 g4. or 1.g4 and 2.f3.

If you check the DB you will find no games with those two opening moves.

Good Luck.

There is surely NO way that there have been no new 'original' games played.

Does that mean every single mistake has been made before? Because if so.... ;-;

Wowzers.

How deep does it go? All the way through the games, or just a few moves in?

I can't believe all my crappy games have been entirely played out before. If so, I should be playing those folks.

I pray to GOD that the last two posts were meant as sarcasm.

When was the last update, or when is the next one? Because my games aren't in there, and it says 'no games have gone past this point' when I try.

There may be a bug in the 'de-doubler' code. In some games I refer to the database until it runs out of moves. I don't have any games in the db and I've played more than a handful of games where I know the database didn't have the move I (or my opponent) made.

I've spent a teeny amount of time doing this-I wrote a simple chess program not too long ago. It included a database, but not a 'de-doubled' database. I could imagine a scenario where the FEN stored in the RHP db is from a game where the position was reached several moves later and the de-doubler incorrectly drops games where the position is reached sooner in a later game.

It's a minor flaw in the program.

The doubler detector kicks in after just two moves.

So games that begin 1.e4 e5 or 1.d4 d5 or 1.Nf3 Nf6 etc etc get stopped.

That is why you should start with 1.f3 2.g4. That will work.
