    A mistake on a chess printed T-Shirt.

A Trap/Trick/Pitfall first played by Milan Vidmar.

Then a blog full of Hall of Doom entrants
that is kicked off with a Nigel Short swindle.

Most are of the slap forehead variety but one,
Ad Parnassum - Helder Octavio RHP 2018
is an unheard melody that would have charmed
and delighted us all if only the lad had seen it.

I live in Florida, but I was born and educated in Virginia. Florida is a crazy state, and stuff like this is common.

For instance, you can go to the local Walmart and buy a replacement auto turn signal bulb for a model T, or any model car. They never sell because replacements aren't needed - no one in Florida uses a turn signal at all until they turn 70, when they start leaving them on all the time.

The most expensive houses are on the beaches, based in part on the mistaken assumption that hurricanes are "overblown", when the correct use of the words with regard to hurricanes is "blown over", like in "everything gets blown over- and flooded".

St. Augustine was founded in 1519 by the Spanish- and people are routinely surprised at how many people speak Spanish here.

    It only gets worse.

    Hear! Hear!

And Paul didn't even mention the proliferation of our Sand Traps, Tourist Traps and Used Car and Timeshare Sales back slaps.

Almost everyone here is from somewhere else...and they still have the audacity to complain about the traffic.

The Milan Vidmar Trap I know but what is the Sand Trap and the Tourist Trap.

Is the Sand Trap something to do with time and losing on the clock....'The Sands of Time.'

Maybe the Tourists Trap is a special set of rules Florida has to
catch tourists. No castling allowed...any check is checkmate.

The Time Share back slap is easy to understand.

I have 30 minutes left on my clock, my opponent has 10. I give him
10 minutes so we both have 20 minutes and he slaps me on the back.

Recently found out that Kasparov missed his chance to play the Vidmar trap..

it was a rapid game but even so that is a surprise.

    M. Roberts - G. Kasparo, Chess Rapid, Table Mountain, 2012

Gary played 10...Nb4 and still won.

What about e5 in that position, would that be bad for black?

    Hi Sonhouse,

10...e5 is a move but 10...N(either) to e5 is better.
