Always Pause Before Promoting

Only Chess

Me smuggling chess ornaments into the Edinburgh Chess Club.

A couple of puzzles then onto a cheeky yet instructive piece of endgame
play by Hans Niemann. There follows a selection of RHP positions where
the players did not pause before promoting to a Queen and lost the game.

The two new pieces sit well with the Knight on the manetlpiece.

Niemann v Abhimanyu

...played 82 Rc8+ Rxc8 83.b7+ Kb8 84 Kc6 [sic] Rc6 85 a7 mate.

should be 84 Kb6

Just nick picking. Otherwise, good thread, GP. Thanks.

Hi Geoff, have a look at Game# 16209388 at move 8. It's symmetrical and I've never seen this before - no doubt you have and maybe there's a story there. Thanks, Greg Williams

There are a few of these mirror games knocking about
some with instructive continuations.
(cannot say too much about that game because it is still in progress.)
Yes good idea for inclusion in a blog.
