Last night we were visiting my grandparents and when a train went by my grandfather recalled the first verse of the following song, and sang it for my two-year-old daughter:

Choo choo choo is a great big horse
and he's made of iron strong.
Choo choo choo pulls a heavy load
and he works the whole day long.

Oooh-oooh-oooh-oooh.
Sings the merry choo choo choo.

He thought the last verse ended something like:

Choo choo choo eats wood and coal
and he seems to like it too.

Oooh-oooh-oooh-oooh.
Sings the merry choo choo choo.

Does anybody recall this one? I think it would be roughly 1920ish vintage, from an old 78 rpm record....

Yup. I think it was

chang chang chang went the ship!

My great great great great grandfather taught it to my great grandfather,

Before we taught you how to smelt steel. ( and kill the ancestors of your land! )

Dementia?

We deal with that free on the NHS also. Free Meds. We don't suck insurance from our people. We don't financially fry them.
Organised and not pilfering.

Why did you move to a new thread and not respond?

It's not my job to run the train; the whistle I can't blow.
It's not my job to say how far the train's supposed to go.
It's not my job to pick the stops, nor call out each new town.
It's not my job to speed it up, nor yet to slow it down.
It's not my job to blow off steam, nor even clang the bell.
But let the damned thing jump the track — then see who catches hell!
