Start two games with opposite colours against a higher rated opponent and just mirror every move they make, thereby getting either two draws, or a win and a loss which helps your rating either way?
Edit - This opportunity would present itself fairly regularly in clan games and tournaments in fact. I'm sure (if it's possible) that this happens fairly often. Seems like a good strategic idea.

No. Wouldn't they have to mirror what you play too?
ie. Two games, You wait for him to move as white, then you go the the game where your white and replicate the move.. you then wait for his black move, and make it in the other game... and so on. It's cheap but wouldn't it work?

Not if you wait for them to move first.

Yes, you could. However, I suspect it might prove a bit more difficult to obtain subsequent games against higher rated opponents after the first time a player pulls this stunt.
It's cheap but doable... pit the same player against himself and watch 😛

Think how easy it would be for RHP to automate a search: find any identical games longer than a given number of moves, where the same player is White in one game and Black in the other. Or they could just automate such a check when a much lower graded player beats/draws a high rated player.

letting a higher rated player dictate where the game is going, playing into his pet lines, not a particularly good idea.
it might risk 3b as well, for outside assistance?

it might be against the rules though.. i certainly hope so.
You could also play two different people, and it would be no different than if they had played each other. Assuming there's no time-out situation, you'd be guaranteed 1 point from the two games.
I think someone tried this already. Eventually he was banned for computer use but I don't know if this stunt was a factor.
