A seasoned 1.d4 player would obviously side-step the Caro.
He plays 1.d4 to avoid learning all the baggage that comes with 1.e4.
Alekhine, Caro, French, Cente Counter, Latvians, Philidor. etc...

Infact if I was White and saw 1...c6 in answer to my 1.d4 I'd play 2.e3.

I'd go for a Colle or Stonewall, and why not? Black's nibble at the centre with c5
comes in two steps instead of one. (tempo gain).
Right or wrong I'd convince myself I was being clever and feel happy.

Of course Black can then swing into a Pirc With his pawn on c6 saying
to my pawn on e3 "I'm OK here but you belong on e4."

    Conclussion: 1...c6!

sounds all good, especially the part about 'avoiding to learn blablabla...' (telling myself i play d4 because it is more fun, but maybe the fun comes from not learning... )

but can you explain a bit, why e3? you mention the lost tempo by c6 instead of c5, and e4 or c4 are basically a step ahead of e3. claim the center, etc., blabla, ... or is it because it feels better for you (style of play, etc., blabla...)

hm, enough blabla from my side...

It's just an idea v 1...c6 instead of the standard 2.c4.

    after 1.d4 c6 2.e3 d5 3.Bd3

If Black want to have a poke at the centre with a latter c5
then c6 is a waste of time.

However Black need not play d5.

    1. d4 c6 2. e3 g6 3. Bd3 Bg7

And I guess white will be playing e3-e4 sometime soon.
So he wasted a tempo as the c6 pawn falls in with the Pirc.
It covers d5, The Queen joins in the game on c7, b6 or a5, b5 is coming
    and prepared should White 0-0-0.
c6 is a handy wee move in the Pirc.

    Just an idea.

I've used 1...c6 against anything heavily in blitz. Tends to give me a comfortable game against any first move by White.

    1.d4 c6

    I suggest

    2. g3!

With the idea of aiming for Catalan positions with white playing a latter c4.

As Black is committed to the slightly passive and inflexible c6, I suggest White a has good chances of gaining an edge against whatever setup black goes for.
