You can't literally "ignore" your opponent's moves when you don't recognize the opening. I take it that you follow the lines for your color regardless of your opponent's responses. That will create problems. You have to play your opponent, that is, you play against the moves he makes, not the moves in some book.

You can't just give up and say "my opponent doesn't knows this openning, so he will win." It takes two players to play an opening (or a game), and he will still have to respond to your moves when you make them. Maybe his opening knowledge is only 2 moves deep, who knows? Maybe he realizes that you attempt to duplicate opening moves even when he deviates, knowing that you will get in trouble that way. Taking advantage of a person's playing technique is a common thing.

Just revert back to opening "principles," such as develop your pieces, fight for the center, castle early, respond to threats, and create your own threats. After all, it's principles like these that opening theory is based on, anyway. Remember that opening "theory" is based ultimately on one principle: Making good moves.

Well, I just lost that game, I wish these RETARDS would work as hard at me at chess, but instead they dicide to be LAZY, not study their openings, and they beat me who deserves to beat them because I work harder at chess. That's god for ya, reward the lazy, punish the hard workers. I looked everywhere in the database and I couldn't find anything to do about 2.Bg5, typical.
I really don't understand your complaint. Someone used an opening that you couldn't respond to and that makes them stupid & lazy? If someone uses an opening against me that I don't know then:

1) I will try to look it up
2) if that fails I'll try to play it by ear
3) if that fails I'll try to see why I failed in the after game analysis

if someone wins within the rules doesn't that make them the better player in the meeting? There are GM's who specialise in unusual openings in the hope of catching other GM's unawares.

That aside, I don't appreciate your use of the word "retard" to describe other users. Firstly you are insulting them, secondly it is a derogetary term for handicapped people. Could you not use it please.

Opening principles are belony against weird openings. Do you think I don't know my opening principles? Don't be sillly. It's just the frustration of defending TACTIC AFTER TACTIC AFTER TACTIC for each weird opening that it really gets to the phyche of a person. And I suppose, I don't need to remind you, if you miss just ONE of those tactics, your opponent will win, it doesn't matter how you positionally outplayed him.

Guys, it goes like this, I spend 4-6 hours everyday studying and playing chess, yet I STILL SUCK. Wouldn't you be very frustrated if that happened to you? The fact of the matter is, I am losing to ppl who simply work less harder on the game, typical of everything I do in life, I need to work 9-10 times harder then the average foe just to acheive mediocraty at best. If anyone is a retard, it is me, I am just plain stupid, I work harder then anyone else, and lose, that's retarded.

I agree with you completely but please satisfy my curiosity...............aren't you a moderator or you're no longer a mod?

Why mateuslose's offensive (for disabled and retarded people) post wasn't moderated?

There was no reason for it. Nobody felt offended, because it was not directed at anybody in particular (or not named anyway). The fact that the tone was not very polite was adequately enough treated by BF's remark. At least, that is my opinion.

Okay, so you suck at chess. But by what standard? No, you'll probably never beat Kasparov, but your rating is higher than mine. That doesn't mean I'm going to beat myself over the head, thoughl.

Count your blessings for a change, and maybe stop "working" so hard at chess, and start enjoying it more.

Just my advice, because it's worked for me.

Do you study and play chess 4-6 hours everyday? Nah, didn't think so, if you worked as much at chess as I did, you would be 1900 something, at least.

In my opinion I would consider someone with your rating to be a good player...

And in the end chess is a game to be enjoyed, win or lose you learn and will improve 🙂

I checked the first few moves of all of your games (as I'm interested in unusal openings) but couldn't find it?

Take it easy. Everybody has different level of natural abilities in each particular field. Being angry at it is plain stupid. Hard work normally pays of, but if you feel so frustrated about your chess progress, probably it makes sense to look elsewhere.

Working hard pays off for anyone but Donovan Westhaver.

I'm not kiding, I am geting very frustrated. Try living in a f***king group home, with little education, and no prospects and you will end up like me too. Everything I try, I suck at, so then I work harder, and then I suck some more, and then I quit, and the cycle repeats and recycles itself. Hard work never pays off, everyone else naturally pulls ahead of me with less work and laziness, because they were born smart, and I was born dumb.

C'mon. There normally always will be somebody smarter than you around. So what? Look at yourself, enjoy your progress. Frustration never helps.

I don't progress, I've been stuck at a rating from 1400 to 1500 for 2 years now. And yes I realize my rating in RHP is technicly over that, but that is a blimp, I am losing to two 1400 raters right now, and it will drop, I expected it to do so anyways. I have gone up around 1600 a few odd times, no matter the chess site, but it doesn't last long, usually it ends by losing a whoping 15 something games in a row. Up and down, up and down, no consistantcy, I can never be consistant at anything and gradually improve.
