1. e4 c6 2. f4 ...
Has anyone seen this attack made on the Caro-Kann?
Does anyone know if it is a named variation and, if so, what that name is?
Thanks.

I have not seen it and I play the Caro Kann a good amount. It reminds me of the Grand Prix Attack in the Sicilian 1.e4 c5 2. f4

That's what brought it to mind for me, too. And the La Bourdonais (spelling?) variation of the French: 1.e4 e6 2.f4
I was contemplating an opening system for White with 1.e4 and, almost regardless of Black's reply, 2.f4 πŸ™‚

there is an online chess database you can use -
http://www.chessgames.com/perl/explorer

there seems to be about 19 games from the position 1 e4 c6 2 f4 d5

i prefer the black pieces in this position, especially if white advances with 3 e5... but i tend to play the french defence. On the plus side, you will get your opponent out of his "book" which can only be a good thing! hope this helpsπŸ™‚
