Looks SO tempting for white but I messed it up. Okay, I was drunk and playing fast, and it looked tasty but next day sobered up and salvaged the situation. How should this line best be refuted?
Game 1260315 It's a pretty horrible game now that I look at it again.😕

You mean after 3..... Qe7, I guess? Stay cool, put your knight back to f3, and develop, knowing that his queen is out early and vulnerable. White is better.

4. Nc4 would have left white up a pawn with no compensation to black.

Except for 4 ... Qxe4+, regaining the pawn. Still looks horrible for black.

Wow. I never knew Black could get out of this opening with so little punishment.

EDIT - Apparently a guy named McGregor (go Irish) drew a game against Bobby Fischer in a Damiano, with Fischer on White! Fischer played 4. Nf3.

Or, here's a pdf with a shorter address:

Little punishment being subjective of course. It's horrible for black but not lost by force.

Can I please have an example game where this opening was done right by white?

A correspondence game (not top level) where white played healthy opening moves and got a better position. He didn't find all the best moves afterwards (like 27.R1e5+ would have won faster), but good enough to finish the game with a win.

[White "Steen,Nick "]
[Black "Klausner,Sherman "]

Clearly not. On the face of it, it still looks that you can bash down the gates and go rape and pillage at will - the Conan the Barbarian attack. As I said, it looks so tempting - but it's not so clear cut. Just play normally and she'll still land in your lap.
One for the memory banks.

It's only a forced win after 3. ... fxe5 - after 3. ... Qe7 you have to take your time.
