I've decided to start opening with e4. I have something lined up for the Sicilian, but what I'm looking for is something dubious but fun to play when my opponent replies with e5. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I'm trying the Latvian Gambit, so something along these lines would be great.

A glass of Scotch is always a dubious choice.

You've been drinking the wrong Scotch. Try the Islay malts.

How about something in the King's Gambit? A friend of mine loves the shock value of the Allgaeir.

1.e4 e5. 2.f3! Nf6 3.f4 And you now have a pure Latvian in reverse,
plus an opponent who is baffled and will underestimate you.

Good Luck.

I'll let you know how it turns out 🙂

Who are you replying to?

Are you going to play the ridiculous over analysed King's Gambit.
Which is more fun to play against 2....d5.

Or the shock value 2.f3 (needs name - the Greenpawn Bluff?).

😲 Greenpawn rejecting an unsound sacrifice ideal for OTB play against enthusiastic amateurs?

Edit: Did I offend you?

That's what I should have said, instead of dissing on the prototype for Kentucky Bourbon.

I agree with GP

No offence - thought the Allgaeir was analysed out to a draw.

Let him blaze a theorectical trail with 2.f3

I've looked on the Games Explorer. It's been played 57 times on here before.
But nobody has played 3.f4 in answer to 2...Nf6 though 29 players
have had the chance to.

Sorry, I was replying to you GP. I had a look at your suggestion in Fritz11 (I got a new boy's toy) and it doesn't like it so I think this is the line for me.

Sorry Meadows, but the KG just doesn't seem dubious enough. What can I say?

Bah! How about some dubious Double Muzio fun?

Don't tell me that's been analysed to a draw or anything!

I think you mean the pure fount from which the muddy river of bourbon floweth.

I play the Evans Gambit whenever I can.

I thought he was talking about the Scotch.

That's fun - perhaps too sound for what you are after.

Try the Lopez-Piano.

1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5 a6 4. Bc4 b5 5. Bb3.

It's still a Lopez but your opponent does not realise that and
plays none Lopes moves.

You cannot argue with that one Mr Meadows. You have had this position.

Good Game, nice pawn Fork with a 'delayed King's Gambit f4!'
