Hans is suing chess dot com and Nakamura and others for 100 million in a defamation lawsuit over their allegations of cheating over the board.
It is not about his online play.
No evidence of over the board cheating has been presented by anyone so yes it is defamation.

From a legal standpoint, I agree, however 100 million dollars in damages over allegations of cheating in OTB play is pretty unrealistic.
Not much option for Hans. His match v Vincent Keymer has been cancelled
and Tata Steel have dropped him. If this continues he won't be able to play anywhere.
Nobody wants to gets on the wrong side of Magnus.
Nakamura should be OK but chess.com who ban up to 800 players a day without
naming them nor publishing their details may have to go into greater detail
how their cheat detection works and they have to have a 100% proof that Hans
cheated in over 100 games. Their use of 'probably cheated will bounce back on them.
They need 100+ games proving beyond any doubt Hans cheated.
What was said between Magnus and the arbiters will have to come out. prior to Round
4 when the security was stepped up. Did Magnus insist they throw Hans out?
That OTB game was clean.
@mchill saidIf it had been just against Nakamura, or Carlsen, or both, sure. Against chess.com, with its dubious practices and massive business? Quite reasonable, I'd say. This company has instigated a concerted campaign to ruin Niemann's career for the rest of his life. What else can he do but hold them accountable?
