Yep, I finally made it over the 1500 blitz mark with this ugly win....

But I'm glad to be over 1500 anyway, it took a very long time to reach that mark for blitz.
Originally posted by cmsMasterwell done. I'm just as likely to get beaten by a 800 as by a 1300... it's just me and that bloody clock. -yesterday I tried playing faster, but that was a disaster with +6 -14 score. the 14 losses came almost in a row... :-(

but, I'm determined to figure it out, keeping at it daily until I do. trying to play faster than my opponents was clearly a mistake, so I'll go back to pacing (trying to) myself to the 5 0...
how many games did it take you to get to 1500?
Originally posted by wormwoodI think I've played 5 or 600 blitz games on PC - so a long time, but I play 3-0 games not 5-0. The thing that I found helped a lot was being able to stop after a handful of games. I play may play 5-7 games a day, but not 20 anymore - because you lose your concentration and that generally leads to large losing streaks like you had. If you want to get faster with blitz games trying playing some bullet games.

i watched my friend play this way against a higher rated opponent in a USCF rated tournament about a month ago...
my friend had 7 seconds on the clock and was making all of his moves in the time delay...
the other guy had 17 minutes on the clock, and was taking his time through the endgame...
my friend won at a lost position with no time...
utterly amazing...

I just won 2 games on time, wupee! which is an achievement because I'm down 1-2 minutes on time in 9 games out of 10, so maybe I'm getting a bit more used to the speed.
I'm also watching 1-3 minute master games, trying to keep up with them. maybe that'll help a bit. it doesn't give that panic which makes you mess up the endings though, so maybe it's not helping after all... but it's fun either way.
Originally posted by wormwoodJust pace yourself, I just finished a game where it took me 14 seconds to play a move that I told the computer to make in 1 second - my computer froze up. 🙁 But I was able to create a lot of problems for my opponent, and think quickly and I won the game on time. The more you play at fast time limits the more you get used to the time.

Another thing to remember is that when you and your opponent are both down around 10 seconds left on your clock, it sometimes helps to worry more about time than your moves - especially if the position isn't too critical. A few premoves that are somewhat solid and you can get 2-3 seconds ahead of your opponent.
