When I first started out I thought I'd invented this gambit until it was pointed out to me by a not so cordial opponent that it's been known for a hundred years. I had to laugh to myself that such a knowledgeable guy fell into the mate despite his unwanted history lesson 😀
I know a fool's mate only takes two moves but how many players really get caught by that.
This was one of my fastest and I was surprised that my opponent allowed this to happen.
I had just lost our previous game badly and this was a grudge/rematch game.
I have always wondered if they were just giving me a mercy "win", but they would never confirm that suspicion.
