Who else would love to have this as an option? http://www.msbsoftware.it/delfi/delfigui.htm It has the same clarity and simplicity but looks more real. It might also reduce any problems with transitioning from 2D to playing OTB on a real board with real pieces. Even more so if the background could be green and white (or light colored) like my OTB kit.
I don't think it's as complicated as it seems since there probably isn't any 3D rendering for the implementation. However, I wonder if it's really a top priority for Russ. Still, it would be pretty high on my list. 🙂 It would be great if at least ICC or Playchess.com (I don't like the full 3D one as much) had this as an option.
