I have a chess game on my computer where if noly 2 kings are left at the end, it automatically says 'Stalemate'. We do not have to claim a draw or anything similar. Why is it not so at RHP? 2 kings can never produce a result unless we have a stupid resignation or a time out.

If only 2 kings are left at the end, it should be stalemate automatically.

Inasmuch as the programmers misunderstand the rules, I would steer clear of that software. Please tell us its name, so we all can avoid it.

A stalemate is a draw, but not all draws are stalemate. Indeed, if only two kings remain, they both will always be able to move, forever. It's as close to eternal life as chess pieces get. In stalemate, as in checkmate, one king cannot move. In stalemate, neither can any other member of his army, but the king is not in check.

Leave aside whether they call it a draw or a stalemate. All I want to know is why isn't it a automatiac draw when only 2 kings are left. There is indeed no result possible unless someone makes a stupid resignation or someone times out the opposition. I mean there should not be a need to claim a draw, the system should automatically end the game and say its a draw.

The system should permit either player to claim a draw under such circumstances, and should treat a time out as a draw claim, awarding 1/2 each.

Most online playing sites automatically adjudicate K vs. K as a draw.

Tell us the name of the software that calls it "stalemate," please.

The software I am referring to is named as 'Fantasy Chess-Shareware'. Although it calls it stalemate which maybe wrong, I like that it is a automatic draw.
