{White should play 1.cxd4 and have excellent winning chances. A passed pawn up. Instead White missed a cute wee trick.} 1. Qxd4 Qxd4 2. cxd4 {White is now a passed pawn up but...} 2..a3 {...and the c-pawn Queens. White resigned. }[/pgn]

Originally posted by moon1969What a clean, logical, and well-played game. Even if the moves were less than perfect (which I can't judge, of course!), each move seemed pretty clear in terms of the player was trying to accomplish, so it was fun and easy to follow, especially with the excellent notes.
An odd game for me in the tournament. An Ruy Lopez that went out of book. Felt like there were missed opportunities on both sides of the board. I was white and up material but black had well-posted bishops and owned the g-file on my king.

And with the d file In whites grasp I don't see how black copes with the threat of a rook lift by white as running his king to f8 gets mated by Qxh7-h8/g8
