I was wondering if anybody could give me some guidelines on a 30 minute game. My good friend TheSilverBullet and I like to play during lunch at work. We have a 30 minute lunch and it all sure looks legit with the clock at 30 min. The real question is? Are there some guidelines we could use to have out 30 min. game similar to something we could play in a tournament?

We started a club for our company and they bought us some sets. Only about 4-5 IN the club right now, but we draw a small crowd to watch our "Blitz" lunch games. Our club games are usually 45min to 1.5 hours. We both are learning and do have what we would consider an "A" player in our club. We take turns getting beat by him.(correction, I get beat by him, "TheSilverBullet" has been on a hot streak and picked up 3 wins off of him. I beat Bullet at lunch yesterday, we tend to go back and forth....just FYI..LOL) LOL Everyone else we are educating. 🙂 Any advice would be greatly appreciated. We are hoping to find some tournaments and other local clubs we can play.
Thanks,

Hi

If you have a 30 minute lunch then the clocks shoud be 15 minutes each.

And like Romaticus not 100% sure what it is you want to know.

Are there 30 minutes tournaments - yes called Allegro's or Quick Plays.

I've never played in any type of tournament. So I have no clue as to how it goes. We would like for our lunchtime games to be structured closely to something we could play in a tournament. Maybe there are not 30 min. tournaments or anything like that. I don't know? I just wondered, with the clocks at 30 min. Without a checkmate, can we determine a winner? How would we score it? Does that make the question more clear? 😉

As far as the club comments, I was just throwing out some background information. I guess it really isn't pertinent to the question. Any advice on how/or where to find tournaments that are rated in some way. That would be helpful. That question should maybe be in a different forum though.
Thanks all

Maybe you could argue that your opponent's time doesn't count as your own lunch break time, and thus get away with an hour?

You would need to set the clocks at 15 mins each and whoever runs out of time or is mated loses. Rules for a draw are the same.

1 for a win

.5 for a draw

0 for a loss

If one player runs out of time, the other one can claim a timeout win (much like on here). Is that what you are asking? And do you have chess clocks?

Awesome picture Nordly. We maybe take a little longer than a half hour anyway. LOL We are in a position we can get away with it. 😉 The 30 min. on the clocks gives us the right to say "We only play a 30 min. game." 😀

That is very unprofessional. You should go have a conversation with ThinkofOne. 😛

"He was about to lose in time trouble, but an amazing sandwich sacrifice saved the game."

I played in a 30 min. match before I had just one min left, so I had to move immediately after each of his moves It was a lot of pressure but I won 😀

If you want to play like a tournament, then you can play by the rule that once you touch a piece, then you must move that piece as long as it can make a legal move.

If you really want to get anal, each of you can write down the moves.
