Game 5013220 I call it the KnightStalker47 variation😀

Can anyone refute this? I'm interested to hear what some higher rated players have to say about it.

The book idea is to play g3 and put the king on g2. So why not play f3 followed by Kf2 and keep the king closer to the middle for the endgame. Also it reduces the mobilty of the knight on f6.

The king is more exposed on f2 than g2. Black will often penetrate to the second rank and having your king on f2 will give black more chances. Also a lot of whites chances/ideas in the benko rely on playing e4 and then a timely e5. In this game you played e3 to give the king extra cover.....at the end of the day you're reducing your own attacking chances and increasing blacks.

Edit: Looking at it more you're also making blacks ideas of e6 easier instead of just playing d6 and then playing on the a+b files. Not to mention a black knight very often ends up landing on d3 in the benko (say after blacks c4) and the king is seriously not well placed to deal with that 🙂

Not bad, playable, but not better than other(and the problem is that you cannot say it throws black out of the book as black can follow his usual plans)

Have to admit I don't much rate it. Having said that, I don't much rate any of the lines where white plays f2-f3. I know some of them are quite popular, but I find, from the black perspective, that black usually manages to get counterplay against the weakened king-side squares, even if sometimes it's much later in the game.

Why don't you ask for a tournament starting at the mentioned position. It should show a few possibilities, shouldn't it?
