Shouldn't blow my own trumpet TOO much here, but I've just been archiving some of my old games and I really couldn't believe how one little piece did so much damage here.

Keep your eye on the pawn that starts at C7.

Game 815269

Oh yeah, and the sacrifice at the end, THAT part I'm proud of.

Good job. I liked your game. The sac at the end was a nice touch.

Isn't that technicaly a "trap" rather than a "sacrifice"

A "sacrifice" been the giving away of material to attain a better possition or to later force checkmate

A "trap" been offering a piece to divert the player's attention away from the checkmate on the next move.

In this case the Queen was the bate. I'd wager a better player might have seen the mate and played Qd5. I'm always suspicious when a player seemingly gives away their queen. Especialy in corespondance chess where they have all the time in the world to look at all the possibilities

Qd5 gives the rook away.

Kg2, h3, or h4 stop the mate without much material loss.

I think that at our level any loss of material (for gain, otherwise it's a blunder) counts as a sacrifice even if it's a one or two move checkmate, as there is always the possibility that I've overlooked something...
Nice checkmate in the game.
