Is there a rule which states that after x amount of moves without a piece [from the start of the game] being taken = a draw?

I think a draw can be claimed after 50 moves in this situation.

If 50 consecutive moves have been by each side, with no captures or pawn moves during that time, the game is a draw.

i thought there was something if both sides made 16 moves at the start without a piece being taken. i thought i read something about it a long (long) time ago...

no worries, it doesnt happen often in my games anyway... 😛

16 moves without a capture!?😲
I don't think it happens often in anyone's games!
Never heard of a draw rule for that case though.

Most of my games over the board end in about 75 moves. This is when a goof doe not end the game. I once played a game where we had lone kings. I had two min. and my foe had 10 min. I stated that the game is a draw. He said no I have more time. The game was on MSN where the rules of the game are not inforced. I took a loss because my foe is a Jack. That loss was not fair. Chess at one time did not have rules like 40 moves in 2 hours. The 50 move rule is because of players like jack.

Don't play chess on a site that doesn't enforce the rules.
