I love to play this with black. Make sure to also know lines in case an opponent plays B1-C3, personally I switch to Pirc in that situation.
Trust me, i have played a lot more Alekhine than many others on RHP who keep playing french and sicilian. This means that I have more experience with the opening. If you want to invest, why not? Even if you lose the first 10 games, you will know more about the idea of the opening, risks and possibilities. This is more important than the opening itself.
Check the book you have and see if you LIKE the type of situations that arise. Do you feel comfortable in this type of positions. This is the main question to answer! Answering this particular question is the main thing when finding an opening that suits you. Whether its considered "weak", unusual, whatever.........if you feel comfortable in the positions (read: match your style) you will ALWAYS have a good chance.
Think about this: What if you are in a position that is supposed to be slightly better....but you dont like the type of situation itself. Will you be able to exploit the advantage? (Dont think so.)
Good luck,
SL

I'd have to say the alekhines is a workable defense.
In all seriousness, playing against it I've always found it to be a tough little nut to crack. I've even been slapped around by it a few times.
