I've been doing some reading lately on a fwe chess openings. Just some thigns to consider when I'm starting a game because my opening is much weaker than my mid-endgame.

Anyways, does anyone use the alkhine defense? How often does the oponent actually cooperate? If he/she doesn't what are you likely to transpose to?

Pirc?
Dragon?

And what the deal with the Hyper-accelerated Dragon? I don't understand why you would make that kind of commitment so early.

If your opponent does not 'co-operate' (does not play 2.e5) and instead plays 2.Nc3, the game can directly transpose into the Vienna Game if Black plays 2...e5. I don't know a lot about the hyper-accelerated Dragon, being comfortable playing the regular Dragon Sicilian.

Your opponent doesn't really have to cooperate with 2. e5 to keep it in an Alekhine. 1. e4 Nf6 2. Nc3 d5!

What about 3.Bd3, it cramps white's development, but it does prevent the gain in points/position. Doesn't it?

3. Bd3 is a terrible move. As you said, it cramps whites development. You should probably play 2..e5. Now look how sad that bishop looks on d3. It's pointing at it's own pawn and blocking the d-pawn from advancing. I think you'd have to pay someone to play that. 2. e5 and 2. Nc3 are the only real moves that get played. Enjoy! 🙂
