    i decided to get out my old chess engines and fire them up. times have changed,written for windows 95,98 they wouldnt load into windows xp😞 ah well they have served their educational purpose.perhaps more modern engines may cast a different veiw point on engine assisted moves. im too old to be worried about it nowadays😀 alright never too old for chess tho🙂been playing on and off for 40yrs

    With a bit of research you probably can get them to work again.

    If you create a shortcut to the programs, then right click on the shortcut, select "Properties" and click on the "Compatibility" tab then there are quite a few things you can try changing there. Also, some older programs will only run if the user has administrator privileges.

    There are a number of free ones. You can get a compiled version of Crafty from the chessbase website.
