O is for Opocensky!

Karel Opocensky was the Czech Master that first played the modern interpretation of what is now known as the Najdorf Sicilian. Najdorf saw Opocensky's games, and adopted the theme as his own.

Here is the earliest Opocensky "Najdorf" that I could find in the database- and he wins, of course!

Quinteros

I am going to break the pattern here, sorry.

Here is a very famous loss ... Sorry, I just couldn't resist including this one.
You have to admire the bravery of the rook sacrifice.

Better to have loved a Short game, than never to have loved a Tal.

U is for Uhlmann!

This is a win with the French against the King's Indian Attack with an interesting backstory.

Bronstein had beaten Uhlmann with the KIA in 1971 with an innovative kingside attack where Uhlmann blundered and lost in 14 moves.

In 1972, Walter Browne repeats the same line, and of course Uhlmann, as a "Holy Defender of the French Defense" is prepared! His 13. ... Qe8! is the innovation that rehabilitates the line for Black.

That last post was the 26th post in this thread.

Correctly done this thread should only have 26 posts.
You still have 3 letters left.

You will have to start all over again with a new thread. 😏

(Perhaps do it using players on RHP all the chosen games MUST end in a mate under 20 moves).
