Recently i was asked to provide a game for my chess clubs magazine. Usually they are analysed by the club chairman (bcf 175 which is about 2000 odd elo) but i decided to do my own analysis for the game. The league i'm playing in isn't a very high standard at all, most of my opponents have been near beginners, so our team has romped to a nearly undefeated record (we lost by 0.5 of a point in one match were i turned down a draw and lost!!!).
In doing this analysis i realized just how much value it has to improve your chess!! I found bucket loads of stronger moves as by writting for a third person i checked my analysis much more deeply.
It is with this in mind that i'd like to propose an analysis exchange program here at RHP. Use this thread to meet fellow players of a similar standard or stronger to swap games for analysis. Generally speaking i'd say exchanging loses would be of most benefit, hopefully your partner can find the moves you should have played and give you the benefit of their perspective.
So, if anyone wants to swap with me (someone preferably about 1600 or stronger, like myself before i resigned 50 games), then put your name down and we'll work something out. Similarly, as i can only really commit to doing one game at a time, swap a few amongst yourselves as well!
I think you'll agree, once you've tried this method of study, that it is probably the best way to expand your chess horizons.
Have fun and with luck and a bit of effort we all might learn something from each other!
Cheers

You are right. Analysing games has improved my play immensely. It forces to look at the reasons behind moves and the principles in practice.
I use analysing games as part of my regular chess regime (that makes it sound a lot more regimented than it is).
At the moment I've commited to analysing some of ravenswood's games however once I've finished those I'll be willing to look over anyone who wants them looked at.
Originally posted by XanthosNZI'd be up for that π

If you have a game you'd like a second opinion on, post it here and i'll have a pop at doing some analysis. It'll probably be a week or so before im done but im sure your not in too much of a hurry. I've been using chessbase to do my analysis up till know and will do my best to find some games of note that might prove useful study material for your game π
Originally posted by marinakatombHere's one I finished a while back. I was quite proud of it however I'm sure it contains some inaccuracies but I usually wait to analyse my games until I've forgotten playing them so I won't be influenced by my thoughts during the game. Getting a fresh run at it so to speak.

Game 919485
Originally posted by XanthosNZNice game! Pehaps a loss would be better though. Im sure there were stronger moves (you'd be a GM if their weren't) but how can i find something for you to improve your game when you've played good enouph moves to win? The game doesn't have to be from the site, perhaps an OTB game, as you don't have many losses here at RHP.

Round 1700-1800.
Game 660971
The game was drawn in the end but i'm sure play could have been much better. If you want to give me one (perhaps from OTB or another site) then i'll be glad to have a pop at doing some analysis.
Originally posted by marinakatombYou're right. Mainly in that game I was interested in other people's opinions on my sacrifices (move 8 sacs the exchange and move 15 sacs a knight for a pawn although it is given back on move 18). I'll look through my games (OTB and online) and see if I can find one that I lost that wasn't an obvious blunder.

Originally posted by XanthosNZCool, just PM me with the game. Though bear in mind i won't be back to RHP till Monday so if you want me to get it done sooner rather than later you might want to see if you can dig one up in the next hour or so. Oh yeh, one last thing, bear in mind my rating! If you give me a game against a 2300 rated player my analysis might not be too relevant π
