Its nothing supernatural. 8-9 years ago (when I played much weaker) I played few blind games against my friends who played seeing the board and I won all games.

i play a friend blind every day. He text messages me his move each morning, and i text back without ever having setup the position. It makes a small handicap. Once you have analyzed enough of your own games, and especially annotated them you can visualize the board easily enough.

Well that move occurred in the rapid game, but when you're 2700 ELO you can find some insane moves without even looking at a board. 🙂
