could my opponent have won this endgame with 48...Kf4
Game 4172914
personally I think it draws with best play from both sides.

I don't think Black can win as long as White is careful. In fact it is Black who is more likely to blow if he allows White to exchange his knight for Black's h-pawn in a position where White get's his king to the queenside pawns much faster than Black.
Here is one possible continuation:
48. ... Kf4 (even if it doesn't win, it is still clearly the best try)
49. Nxe4 h4
50. Kd3 h3
51. Nf2 h2 (if 51. ... Kg3, White wins after 52. Nxh3)
52. Ke2 Kg3
53. c4 Kg2
With a draw which is easy to hold for both sides.
black draws with this continuation-----kd4 - kf4 nh3 kg3 ng5 kf4 nxe4 h4 kd3 b5 b3 h3 nf2 h2 ke2 a4 nh1 axb3 axb3 b4 nf2 kg3 kf1 kf3 nh1 ke3 kg2 kd4 kxh2 kc3 nf2 kxb3 game drawn.Whatever alternative moves white may select ,white is not capable of forcing a win after black king to f4.likewise black is also not capable of forcing a win after white plays king to d4------------

I personally like Kf3...
can you check that for me?

I thought you went with Nxe4, not Nh3
what's the continuation after Nxe4 instead?
since tottom clearly would have played Nxe4, I think we should analyze the game he would have played to see how his game would have turned out.

white can check with the knight, but then black should be good after re-attacking the knight...

sorry-I meant knight x e4 also draws in any move selections-
no king move will do anything (i.e. Kf3 Ng5+ Kg4 Ne5 and now Kf4 (or else Ke3) and now it's the previous position with white to move...
unless this is some weird zugzwang I'm missing, now white may have the upper hand(?)
Originally posted by rubberjaw30all this doesn't really matter to me any more. I had a much better position earlier yet squandered it. In short I should have won earlier instead of playing into a drawn position.
