In Thread 73015 I did post two OTB games in which I played Sicilian 2.c3.

So here is one more Sicilian 2.c3 game played in 259th Sunday-Tournament in Playchess.com (in which I took second place with 5 wins and 2 draws 🙂 ).

Nice game, if I remember correctly more accurate then 5.... Qxd6 is 5.... e6 taking back with the bishop the next move.

I was wondering what is the strategy behind the c3 Sicilian?

5...e6 is more popular, but in my opinion 5...Qxd6 is no worse. But 7...e5?! was not good idea - alternatives are 7....g6, 7...Bf5 and 7...Bg4.

I think it has to do with creating a full(er) pawn center after an eventual d2-d4 pawn push.

Don't count on it, though, as I haven't yet played a c2-c3 Sicilian.

The main idea is to move pawn to d4 protected with pawn on c3. But after 2...Nf6 I prefer 3.e5 Nd5 4.g3. But 4.d4 and 4.Nf3 are more popular than 4.g3.

I've played a few c3 sicilians as black, and got (I think) quite equal chances after 2. d5. What do you think about this move/line?

In my opinion after 2...d5 3.exd5 Qxd5 4.d4 white has small plus.
