One exception to the rule is longer problems - some of those start with checks. Here is an example.

Starts with 1.Bc6+, but this is not considered a flaw.

Consider me officially beaten. I've given about 2 hours a day since you posted that 12 move puzzle, and I cannot stop the opening of a flight square on b3, and/or a pinning/check with Ra7. If noone gets it, please give us the solution at some distant point in the future
