I put my vacation sign on with the message i would be away on holiday for two weeks for everyone to see, i did say i would try and make moves if there was internet access at hotel i was staying at, but there wasnt. I have been timed out on over 50 games out of 90 what is the point in carrying on?????? this is first vacation i have taken since joining over 4 days. All my remaining tournaments are not worth completing because i have lost most of games in them now. I suggest everyone time me out now as i dont think it worth playing anymore games and i wont go through and resign them all. i have a rating in the 800's and those of you who have played me know i am not in that category. π π π
Originally posted by Crocdamn that's harsh....before I go on vacation I plan to minimalise the number of ongoing games so that doesn't happen..sorry..I'm a quick player so if you wanna get a few games going now I'm sure you're rating'll raise

All tournament games are automatically times out, so nobody had a chance there: if not, tournaments can end up taking years.
Alas for non-tournament games, while you can ask people to not take TOs, you can't stop them. That is why the Timebank feature was added. Ensure your games have a timebank big enough for any breaks you expect during a given game.
From your profile it seems you are happy enough using TOs on others (though the vaccation flag is a difference), so perhaps many of your oppenents just looked at your other games, saw you are a user of the TO and responded as you might expect.
Not to worry: it might take a little while to regroup, but I'm sure you will. Then make sure you have a suitable timbank and you should not suffer this problem again.
It won't be as long as you think Croc. I was up in the 1600's and came back from vacation at almost the 1100's and it took no time at all to get back up to near 1400 (where I belong more than the 1600's). My current drop in rating just has to do with my chess stupidity lately, not timeouts π Anyway, if you want a few games, just send them over.

Maybe there's not so much of this claimed V.F. respect because there are many players abusing it and puttin it on everyday or when they are losing a game.
To stop these unfair things I think no rating points gaining from a timeout when V.F. is on will be useful.
I didn't have a game with you, but I'd like to point out that alot of poeple abuse the vacation feature. I have an opponent that started losing, quit moving suddenly and put on the vacation sign then continued to move on their other games. I'm just chopping at the bit to time them out. I won't time someone out that I know really is on vacation (i.e. SirLoseAlot currently), but it's hard to respect the vacation icon when some players just throw it on at their convienence.
Originally posted by ToeI said no rating points for a win with V.F.,losses must be rated either.
And so every time someone was going to loose they put their
VF flag on? That wouldn't work either.
Just use timebanks and play nice people!
without the rating gaining people will lose interest to timeout people with the V.F. on.
Originally posted by saintnickUh... as I just commented in another thread... it's your choice. there's no rule about respecting the vacation flag. if you think they're abusing it, just time 'em out and let them cry to the wind.

I think it is a very fine line between the two it seems. Some people are abusing the vacation flag and others of us genuinally are away. Timeouts on tournaments are difficult to cope with, i was consistantly a MAP top 20 RHP player and was moving allday everyday without fail. I cant make people move any faster and now i have suffered as a consequence, i shall certainly be more careful when choosing timeout tournaments. πππ
