if you can't answer all my questions thats fine but any advice would be appreciated!

has anyone else had trouble with playing chessmaster 11 ed.? the installation went fine. the intro and music play fine. but then when i attempt to play a game its super slow and freezes for like 30 seconds per move!

has anyone else encountered a problem like this?

my computer not only meets the system requirements but exceeds them! so i really don't know what the problem is.

mind you my computer is like 4 years old but its supped up with amd atholon 64, 2 gigs of ram, 256 mb raedon game card, and a creative sound card.

i recently did add the 2 gigs of ram upgraded from an integrated 512mb. mind you i bought the cheapest one in the store two 1 gig sticks. does the quality of ram you buy make any difference, especially for gaming?

one thing that i do notice that didn't used to happen is that sometimes the computer gets really loud and the fan sounds like its working overtime? is this related to the cheap gig sticks i have?

i just don't get it fritz 11 runs fine on my computer and chessbase as well. and chessmaster 10th ed used to work fine to until i lost it.

any ideas?

You might want to try defragmenting your hard disk and clean up your register. Does the problem with your computer (I'm referring to the noise it produces) occur when you start up the computer or when it is already running? If it happens during the startup, it could be that your hard disk needs to be replaced. If the computer is running slow when you open or use a application the memory is insufficient or the added memory does not fit with the motherboard. You could check the specs of your motherboard on the internet to see if upgrading is possible. Sometimes a computer is just getting old and is ready for retirement.
Anyway, good luck.

yeah im not sure whats wrong with my computer. the fan starts working overtime not in the start-up but when i have a bunch of things happening at the same time. for example i could be downloading music and watching a video at the same time. or im playing chess online but my fritz and chessbase are both open too.

so what does that sound like motherboard, hard-disk. or maybe just plain over use. maybe its normal since i got so many different programs running.

but i am considering purchasing a new motherboard.

if i bought one off amazon.com which one would you recommend?

Don't know exactly what to recommend, but have you ever given any thought on just buying a new pc? Even the cheaper ones perform a lot better than upgraded oldies. Even notebooks perform really good, compared to pc's from four years ago.
