Do you know of any games here between opponents who are vastly separated in rating? (I like watching train wrecks too. 😛 )

A secondary question is: Suppose you see a move that looks like it will clobber your opponent. Then you realize that there is a subtle refuation of it that will actually gain your opponent an advantage, if only he/she can find it. Do you ever decide to go ahead and make that move, based upon a suspicion that your opponent is not clever enough to find the right response?

That's a surefire way to lose games 🙂 If you can find it, so can your opponent.

Not that I ever manage to find anything subtle in my games. Would be nice!

My personal horror.

Rapalla7, I suspect you normally play much better than that. Maybe the rating of your opponent rattled you and kept you off your game?

I have no excuse. It was pretty embarrasing. And no I don't play that bad. Usually?

I can top that.

Game 554763

And may god have mercy on my soul. In "my" opening too... with a highly unsound novelty :-)

I haven’t yet learnt all the more subtle rules of chess but have heard that if your King moves into the same square three times consecutively it is stalemate. Is this true or is there a rule similar to this?

Not so. If the same POSITION appears on the board 3 times, with all the pieces in the same place and having their same rights (ie. right to castle, right to capture en passant) and the same player on the move, that's a draw.

If claimed.
