The best game of my career to date, against a player who is definitely rated higher than he actually is now:
Game 1266292
I would just like to give my thoughts. His push 4..c5 looks pretty bad to me in the first place, since he is way behind in development and I am going to gain another tempo off his queen. It doesn't make sense to open up the game any further. So after that I tried to develop and play as forcefully as possible. It looks like after d5 he is in big trouble, since he hasn't yet developed any kingside pieces at all and the e-file is open. His Rc8 looks very slow in this position. Fritz gives Rxe6! instead of Nxe6, which was played. The obvious line is fxe6 Qh5+ Kd8 Nf7+ and white wins a piece. Here was my logic that allowed me to find the combination. First is that he is behind in development and his king is in the center, so I knew I wanted to do somthing about it. I decided to just look at all the forcing things I could. I thought that if I could rip open the pawns in front of his king it would definitely be over, since my rooks and queen would get to him. I tried some other crappy lines that didn't work, including some Bf4 ideas hoping that he would push ..e5, so I could just sac the bishop for his two remaining pawns in front of the king. So I finally ended up checking the forcing Bxc5+!, and then Rxe6!!, which luckily worked! Notice that Qc7 instead of his Qe8 loses to Bf4!, when the same theme applies after Rxe6+!!. I especially liked by just playing pretty obvious moves and sequences, white gained a very large advantage and then dropped the bomb! π
Enjoy. π

Right. Change the title to "At Tebbs Suggestion!" So what do you guys suggest, since Mephisto's line seems playable. Instead of 0-0, dxc5? Or maybe even before that 1. e4 e6 2. d4 d5 3. exd5 Qxd5 4. Nf3 c5 5. Nc3 Qd8 6. Be3!?. 5. c4 has also been played with great success for white also. Let's get some lines going. 4..c5 seems bad to me. I dunno though, maybe I am wrong.
Originally posted by !~TONY~!I tend to agree that 5....c4 is not very good. The more obvious Nf6 looks better. The fact that both bishop and knight are undeveloped at the kingside make the d5-push extra strong. How about the pawn sac and play 7.d5(!? or ?!) instead of 7.0-0 ? For instance 7.d5 Bxb5 8.Nxb5 exd5 9.0-0 and black may have difficulty covering all attack lines.

Originally posted by Mephisto2M.C.O. gives 3. exd5 exd5 and no alternatives (p. 235 col. 91), although that doesn't mean other moves aren't possible just that whoever wrote it doesn't rate them. Taking with the queen like that tends to lead to trouble in most openings that it can happen in because of Nc3...
