Some of you may already know about this, but I just found out about a link to audio of about a 4 minute interview with Alekhine.
Recorded interviews with Chess Masters (prior to WWII) are very rare...and I've always held a fascination with the old time masters.
Here is a link to the page from the site (Chessgames.com) which links to the interview..

And apparently, the audio is archived at Chess Cafe...that's where the link takes you to...

I gotta get into the chesscafe archives more often!
I think the narrator mentions that this Alekhine interview takes place in 1938, and was probably done by the BBC...
good stuff .. but I dont believe anyone is born with talents.. it's something you have to learn.. I totally disagree with him there.. he said just like musicians are born with these skills.. last year I got myself a midi keyboard and can now play it.. why because I took the trouble of learning how to play it.. and this year I got a electric guitar.. I thought soon after I got my guitar i'm never going to be able to play this .. but 3 months later started to get the hang of it.. with practice anyone can do anything..
Originally posted by CenterNutyes, but a professional keyboard player would be able to do it masterful after the same period that you could just play it. you'd learn chess as much as you want, you still probably wouldnt beat kasparov.

once you learn about scales, chords & some music theory it not hard to improvise btw or to create music that sounds good.. you might be interested to know music is based on patterns to..
I also couldn't read music till last year.. its a notation created by humans for humans is nothing anyone with half a brain couldn't do.. (if I can do it anyone can) 😉
like I say with practice anyone can do anything.. including you..

He sounds much more different than I imagined he would.
I can picture some old-time movie actors that would go with his voice better than the way he really looked... like the guy who played Lou Gehrig's father in "Pride of the Yankees" for example...
Originally posted by CenterNutok, go practice 20 years of chess and then beat some GM at it. I want to see proof of this.

im not trying to discourage you or others at all. I am simply pointing out that it's very hard to become a GM.
